Reconciliation action plan

We’re passionate about creating equal opportunities for all, and a culture of respect and understanding for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our vision for reconciliation is an Australia where there is equal opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, founded on a culture of respect and shared understanding of our history that helps to close the gap between First Nations peoples and others in our nation.

We are currently in our fourth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and are focused on embedding reconciliation more deeply across our organisation and the communities we serve.

Our reconciliation journey

October 2018 – Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

Our first reconciliation action plan—our Reflect RAP—outlined our plan for engaging, strengthening and maintaining our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. outlined our plan for engaging, strengthening and maintaining our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This RAP gave us amazing opportunities to turn our good intentions into real actions.

January 2020 – Innovate RAP

Our second reconciliation action plan—our Innovate RAP—showcased our ongoing commitment to engage, strengthen and maintain our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and First Nations peoples. We made improvements to the way we work, putting important policies in place to create opportunities for employment, collaboration and connection.

We finalised our Innovate RAP in December 2021, our achievements centred on strengthening and growing our First Nations networks and partnerships while providing a service with manners, respect and courtesy to First Nations customers.

Throughout 2022 and into 2023 we continued to develop professional and community partnerships, using our influence in the wider community to engage, encourage and promote partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.

January 2024 – Second Innovate RAP

Our second Innovate RAP strengthened our commitment to reconciliation through meaningful action, partnership and accountability. Over the course of the plan, we continued to build cultural capability across our organisation, strengthened relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations, and increased awareness of the services and support available to First Nations consumers. We deepened our engagement with communities across Queensland and worked collaboratively with stakeholders to promote positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through this RAP, we embedded reconciliation more deeply into the way we work, creating stronger opportunities for connection, learning and advocacy. We continued to use our influence across the energy and water sectors to encourage respect, collaboration and shared responsibility for reconciliation. The foundations established through our second Innovate RAP have positioned us to take the next step in our reconciliation journey as we move into our first Stretch RAP, focused on delivering sustainable outcomes and creating lasting change.

July 2026 – Stretch RAP

Our first Stretch RAP marks an important milestone in our reconciliation journey. Building on the strong foundations established through our Reflect and Innovate RAPs, this plan demonstrates our commitment to embedding reconciliation more deeply across our organisation and the communities we serve.

Through our previous RAPs, we strengthened relationships, developed meaningful partnerships, improved cultural capability, and created opportunities for collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations. Our Stretch RAP focuses on turning these commitments into lasting and measurable outcomes. We will continue to promote a culture of respect, understanding and accountability while advancing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our services, workforce, procurement practices and community engagement.

As we enter this next stage, we are committed to challenging ourselves to do more, listening and learning from First Nations peoples, and using our influence to encourage positive change across our sector. Through meaningful action and shared responsibility, we will continue working towards a future where reconciliation is embedded in everything we do and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can thrive as informed, empowered and connected consumers.
