Starting your new role

When you’re ready to start your role, we’ll provide information about your conditions and obligations as a team member at the Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland (EWOQ).

Conditions of employment are comparable to those across the Queensland Public Service.

Here is a summary of some of these:

If you’re not a current, permanent employee of the Queensland Public Service, you will be appointed for 3 months initially if the role is permanent. This probation period may be longer depending on the role.

For more information, read section 126 of the Public Service Act 2008.

Union membership

The Queensland Government encourages union membership.

At EWOQ, we encourage team members to join and maintain financial membership of an organisation that has the right to represent their industrial interests.

We provide information on union membership when you start the role.

Ethical standards

EWOQ is committed to maintaining high ethical standards. We are guided in our interactions with clients and each other by the Code of conduct for the Queensland public service.

The code contains these ethics principles and values as prescribed in the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994:

  • integrity and impartiality
  • promoting the public good
  • commitment to the system of government
  • accountability and transparency.

Performance development

We believe our team members will be more successful when they can regularly discuss priorities and workload in an environment that celebrates innovation, and encourages opportunities to develop and achieve new goals.

Therefore, we support a capable and accountable workforce where performance conversations about conduct, values and behaviours, performance expectations and capability development occur.

Each team member creates a Professional Development Agreement Plan.

Intra- and interstate travel

We have a strong community engagement focus that enables team members to attend community events within and outside working hours.

Intrastate and interstate travel may also be required for all roles.

Therefore, our team members must:

  • be able to attend community events inside and outside working hours
  • be able to travel intrastate and interstate if required
  • hold a current driver’s licence.

Additional hours

All positions at EWOQ may be required to work additional hours to meet critical deadlines. This is negotiated with your manager.

Usually you will receive notice and can access accrued time off when it’s convenient operationally.

Records and information management

All team members are responsible for:

  • managing records effectively
  • maintaining confidentiality, integrity and availability of information in line with our information security and recordkeeping policies.
