Rebates and concessions

You may be eligible for rebates and concessions to reduce your energy or water bill each month.

We’ve listed a few common ones here. Visit the Queensland Savers website to see more available to Queenslanders.

Contact your retailer to see if you’re eligible and they’ll credit the rebate to each bill automatically.

Electricity rebates

You may be eligible for an electricity rebate through your electricity provider if you’re an asylum seeker or you hold a:

  • Queensland Government Seniors Card
  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Commonwealth Health Care Card (HCC)
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card.

The Electricity Life Support Concession Scheme and the Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme provide eligible people with assistance in meeting their electricity costs.

The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme (HEEAS) is a one-off payment to help people who have experienced a crisis or unforeseen emergency within the past 12 months and can’t pay their electricity bill.

To check your eligibility, contact you electricity provider and ask for an application.

Gas rebates

You may be eligible for a gas rebate through your gas provider if you’re an asylum seeker or you hold a:

  • Queensland Government Seniors Card

To check your eligibility, contact your gas provider and ask for an application.

Water rebates

Water rebates are available to eligible pensioners in South East Queensland who hold a:

  • Queensland Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card.

The annual rebate is allowed on one property at a time and can’t be claimed on additional properties. You must be the owner or the life tenant of the property and it must be your principal place of residence.

Also, you can’t claim a water rebate if you’re not billed directly by a water retailer in South East Queensland.

Dialysis patients in South East Queensland might also be entitled to a water rebate. Contact your provider to find out more and check your eligibility.
