Rebates and concessions

You may be one of the many Queenslanders who are eligible for rebates or concessions to reduce your energy and water bills.

This page will tell you what the common rebates and concessions are, how to check your eligibility and what to do if you have an issue related to rebates and concessions.

Common rebates and concessions

Below are the common rebates and concessions available for your electricity, gas and water bills. For a full list, please visit the Queensland Savers website.

Electricity rebates and concessions

You may be eligible for the Electricity Rebate Scheme through your electricity provider if you hold a:

  • Queensland Government Seniors Card
  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Services Australia Health Care Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card
  • Asylum seeker status.

The Electricity Life Support Concession Scheme and the Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme provide eligible people, with certain medical equipment or conditions, assistance in meeting their electricity costs.

The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme (HEEAS) is a one-off payment to help people who have experienced a crisis or unforeseen emergency within the past 12 months and can’t pay their electricity bill.

To check your eligibility, contact your electricity provider and ask for an application.

Gas rebates and concessions

You may be eligible for the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate Scheme through your gas provider if you hold a:

  • Queensland Government Seniors Card
  • Pensioner Concession Card

Water rebates and concessions

You may be eligible for the South East Queensland Pensioner Water Subsidy Scheme through your water provider if you hold a:

  • Queensland Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card.

The annual rebate is allowed on one property at a time and can’t be claimed on additional properties. You must be the owner or the life tenant of the property and it must be your principal place of residence.

Also, you can’t claim a water rebate if you’re not billed directly by a water provider in South East Queensland.

Dialysis patients in South East Queensland might also be entitled to a water rebate.

To check your eligibility, contact your water provider and ask for an application.

Other rebates and concessions

From time to time the Queensland or Australian governments may have temporary rebates and concessions available to assist with cost of living or with making your home more energy efficient.

Please visit the Queensland Savers website to see what’s currently available.

What to do if you have an issue with a rebate or concession

You should contact your provider if you have a problem with a rebate and concession such as not receiving one you are entitled to. They can assist you with ensuring the rebate or concession is applied and investigate if there was an issue.

If your issue isn't fixed or you're unhappy with the outcome, contact us.
