Position descriptions

Each role at the Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland (EWOQ) has a position description.

The position description contains information about the role, and the skills, experience and qualifications it requires.

Before you apply for a role, read its position description to decide whether the role is right for you and how to apply.

Note: All position descriptions are subject to change. Duties may change to reflect the team’s priorities, but not enough to change the nature of the role.

Consider these sections of the position description when you write your application:

Your contribution

The ‘Your contribution’ section outlines the core duties of the role.

Read this section carefully to fully understand the duties you would need to perform in this role.

What we are looking for

We are all leaders in the Queensland public sector, regardless of role or classification level, or whether we formally manage or lead people.

Leadership is about successfully delivering results in collaboration with others.

Read the Leadership competencies for Queensland to see what success looks like when a person demonstrates leadership effectively.

Appointments in the public sector are based on merit. To assess your merit, we examine:

  • what you’ve done previously
  • the knowledge, skills and experience you’ve built
  • your potential for development
  • your personal qualities.

Mandatory requirements

If the position description states mandatory requirements, your application should detail your ability to fulfil these.

Application requirements

Read the application requirements closely, even if you’ve applied for roles before, as they may be specific to the role.

For example, you may need to write a 2-page statement addressing all the criteria or only 2 specific questions relating to the role.

You may need to provide:

  • an up-to-date resume (no more than 4 pages) that briefly outlines your work experience, including where you’ve worked, duties you’ve performed and periods of employment
  • the names and contact details of 2 referees with a thorough knowledge of your work performance and conduct over the previous 2 years. One must be a current or immediately past supervisor.
